This key achievement for the EFGL project, one of Ocean Winds’ three offshore wind farms currently under construction in France, marks a major step for France’s floating offshore wind development and for the Occitanie Region’s energy transition and industrial capabilities.
July 31st, 2025 — Port La Nouvelle, France – Ocean Winds (OW), the international company dedicated to offshore wind energy and a joint venture between EDP Renewables and ENGIE, announces the successful installation of the first floating wind turbine of its Éoliennes Flottantes du Golfe du Lion (EFGL) project, developed in partnership with Banque des Territoires. This achievement reinforces Ocean Winds’ long-standing leadership in floating offshore wind and marks a pivotal step toward operational deployment in the Occitanie region, in French Mediterranean.
Assembled at the port of Port-La Nouvelle in Occitanie, the first of three 10 MW turbines, each towering 186 m at blade tip, was towed 16 km offshore by a dedicated maritime convoy and safely installed at its final location. The operation is the first of three such installations scheduled for this summer, with the full pilot wind farm set to be completed by the end of August.

The EFGL project will comprise three 10 MW turbines installed on floating foundations, anchored to the seabed by nine mooring lines. Once complete, EFGL will mark a major step for OW’s clean energy delivery in Occitanie, producing enough power for approximately 50,000 residents.
Ocean Winds has been recognized as a global leader in floating wind, from WindFloat Atlantic to ongoing projects in Scotland, Korea, and beyond, including the EFLO (Eoliennes Flottantes d’Occitanie) 250 MW floating offshore wind project, currently in its early stage of development also in the Mediterranean. EFGL further solidifies OW’s pioneering position and demonstrates the technology’s readiness for commercial-scale deployment.
