High Sea Wind

In April 2024, Ocean Winds was granted a feasibility license by the Australian Government for a 150 km² area to develop a bottom-fixed offshore wind farm in waters off the coast of Gippsland, Victoria. The exclusively OW-owned project, named High Sea Wind, is expected to have an installed capacity of approximately 1.3 GW, enough to power 1 million Victorian households annually.

This clean energy project will prevent up to 5.3 million tons of CO2 emissions each year and play a key role in helping the State of Victoria achieve its target of 95% renewable energy by 2035. According to reports produced for the application process, High Sea Wind has the potential to generate over 16,700 direct jobs and 27,400 indirect jobs through supply chain impacts and increasing wages.

Still in the early stages of development, High Sea Wind is working closely with local, regional, and federal authorities to secure environmental approvals and develop management plans that balance sustainability with economic opportunities.

The next step for the project is to deploy a floating Lidar buoy and begin conducting geophysical and geotechnical surveys in the area while maintaining the commitment of meaningfully engaging with local communities, Traditional Owners, and other ocean users.
