16 Turbines Standing at SeaMade, Belgium’s largest offshore wind farm
Sixteen out of 58, 8.4 MW turbines have been installed at the SeaMade offshore wind project in Belgium.
The 9th turbine load-out is currently being prepared at the Port of Oostende. The first turbine at the SeaMade offshore wind farm was installed in the Belgian North Sea in June. The project produced its first power shortly after.
Offshore construction of the SeaMade wind farm started in September 2019, with the last foundation installed in January 2020, in the meantime connected by the subsea cables.
‘Apollo’ (offshore installation vessel) loaded the first wind turbine components at the Renewable Energy Base, which is used as the marshalling harbour for the pre-assembly of the 58 turbines. ‘Apollo’ will transport the tower elements, nacelles and blades, with a total weight of 1,000 tonnes each, for installation at the SeaMade site which is about 45 km off the Belgian coast.
The 487 MW wind farm, which comprises the 252 MW Seastar and the 235 MW Mermaid offshore wind projects, will be Belgium’s largest offshore wind farm once commissioned this year.
